Workshop at the conference of the European Sport Economics Association (ESEA) in Rotterdam, Netherlands:
‘Conference behavior – stategies and gender differences’
At the 2024 ESEA conference, Dr. Katrin Scharfenkamp held a PhD workshop on ‘Conference behavior – strategies and gender differences’. After an input presentation on the importance of attending conferences and a gender comparison of conference behaviors; the participants had the chance to reflect on their own conference behavior. For this purpose, the participants were asked to answer questions about their experiences and behavior at conferences. These answers were put into relation with findings from module 2 of the WISEMS project. This conversation was followed by a panel discussion with Assoc. Prof. Steven Salaga (University of Georgia, USA), Assoc. Prof. Thomas Peeters (Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands), Dr. Kaori Narita (University of Liverpool, UK), and Dr. Robert Butler (University College Cork, Ireland).

Workshop at the Annual Meeting of the German Association of Sports Economics in Bayreuth, Germany:
‘Gender differences in researchers’ networks’
Dr. Katrin Scharfenkamp held a workshop on ‘Gender differences in researchers’ networks’. In the input presentation she highlighted findings on collaborations and network connections. Furthermore, the participants had the opportunity to reflect on their own scientific networks by answering questions on the composition of their networks. The input presentation was followed by a panel discussion with Professor Markus Kurscheidt (University Bayreuth, Germany), Professor Martin Schnitzer (University of Innsbruck, Austria), Professor Joel Maxcy (Drexel University, USA), and Professor Pamela Wicker (Bielefeld University, Germany). During the panel discussion, the characteristics and qualities of the network as well as strategies to improve one’s visibility and interactions within the network were discussed.

Workshop at the annual conference of the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM) in Minneapolis, USA:
‘Gender Differences in Conference Behavior’
Prof. Pamela Wicker and Dr. Lara Lesch held a workshop on “Gender Differences in Conference Behavior” at the 2024 NASSM Conference, in which further results from the WISEMS project on the visibility and perception of female scientists were presented. The findings were discussed with a gender diverse panel of scholars at different career stages, including this year’s winner of the prestigious Zeigler Award Professor Dan Mason (University of Alberta, Canada) and last year’s winner of the NASSM Distinguished Research Award Professor Andrea Geurin (Loughborough University London, UK), Dr. Ashlyn Hardie (Clemson University, USA), Dr. Erik Lachance (Brock University, Canada), Anne Dietrich (PhD student; Texas A&M University, USA), and Tae Hoon Lee (PhD student; University of Florida, USA)
